LABOUR'S PLATFORM

Sir, —A letter under tho above heading signed by Mr. C. H. Mellsop makes very interesting reading. The writer overlooks tho fact that every cut in wages adds to the number of unemployed. Reduction in wages increases production, while this country really needs increased consumption. If old age pensions were payable at 45 years and hours reduced to six per day with a minimum of 14s per day wage, say for about five years, New Zealand would be nearer solving tho problems of tho present depression than any other country in tho world. New Zealand has tho wealth, but lacks tho courage to take full advautago of it. Let's get out of tho habit of thinking in "money" and try thinking in "goods." F.C.G.
