LEAGUE FOOTBALL

CLUBS AT ONEHUNGA GROUNDS AND FACILITIES A letter from flic recently-formed Mninikau Rugby League Football Club was read at a meeting of tlio Or.eliungrv Borough Council last evening, asking that provision lie made for dressing accommodation on the Waikarnka recreation reserve. The letter pointed out that the club had submitted plans of a proposed building and. as the football season opened on May 29. and as tho exclusive right of tho use of flie existing <liessing pavilion had been granted to the Manukau Rovers' Rugby Football Club, the question was an urgent one. Tho club also made application for permission to hold a League football carnival on Saturday next and to make a charge for admission to the reserve, when exhibition matches would be played between the Devonport and Marist Old Boys' League Clubs. The Mayor, Mr. E. Morton, moved that the question be referred to tho eouncil-in-committ.ee. An amendment was moved by Mr. F. W. Mountjoy and seconded bv Mr. T. H. Geraghly that a suitable building be erected forthwith at a cost of £OO lor material only and that the borough foreman confer with the club's officials to meet their requirements. The amendment was lost on the voices. Regarding the club's application for ,n charge day, the Mayor moved that permission be granted, subject to non-inter-ferenco with any other club using tho ground Mr. M Moore said certain Rugby teams had made arrangements for players from Parnell and Ponaonby to play matches on the reserve on the day in question ivud tho council's action in granting one code permission to chargo would probably lead to a clash between the two codes. The Mayor said if the two bodies could not come to some amicable understanding tho permission to make a charge would bo 'withdrawn. On this understanding the motion was carried.
