BUSHFELLING FATALITY

YOUNG MAORI KILLED FOUND CRUSHED BY TREE c [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] ROTORTJA, Thursday A Maori bushman, Mr. Wi Ratu, suffered injuries which proved fatal while bushfelling near Rotoiti, about 20 miles • from Rotorua, yesterday afternoon. * He was employed with a gang of men and when the men gathered for their afternoon spell, Ratu was missing. A search was made, and Ratu was discovered lying dead on some branches of a tree, with the upper part of his body crushed. He had been felling a tawa tree and it is presumed that while working on a branch, the tree split and struck him with much force. It is not known exactly when the acci- : dent occurred, although he had been seen about 20 minutes before the men stopped for their afternoon spell. Deceased was 25 years of age. He leaves a widow and two young children. An' inquest will be held.
