Mr. Stevens left his companions late in •the afternoon to have a drink at a creek. His companions, under the impression that he had gone on ahead, did not realise that he was missing, until they arrived back in Waihi after darkness had set in. As the missing man had not returned at dawn to-day, search parties went out from both Waihi and Waitekauri, and were still searching when Mr. Stevens arrived home about 10 o'clock this morn- • ing in a state of exhaustion. He had received injuries to one leg and the body and facial bruises and abrasions, received through falling down a declivity on to the creek. With darkness approaching,' more or les« disabled by his injuries, Mr. Stevens decided to stay the night in the bush. Starting out at daylight, slowly and painfully he made his way back by & circuitous route.
