HEARTSEASE TO SAIL

LONG WORLD CRUISE YACHT READY FOR VOYAGE DEPARTURE THIS EVENING It is anticipated that the Auckland keel yacht Heartsease will set out on the first stage of her projected world cruiso this evening when sho will leave her berth near the Central Wharf for Kawau. The present intention of the crew is that a few days will be spent at Kawau making everything shipshape before commencing the long journey. Provisions, water, and petrol for 'the small auxiliary motor were taken on board yesterday, and the yacht was registered and given her certificate of seaworthiness nfter being examined and passed by officers of the Marino Ejcpartmcnt. It is interesting to note that her certificate shows that her net tonnago is approximately 4£ and her gro'ss tonnage 14.86, lier displacement being approximately 18 tons.

The Heartsease has been fitted with new running gear and her standing rigging has been renewed and augmented for heavy work outside. She has also been supplied with a new suit of sails mado of strong No. 5 navy canvas. This suit has been designed for ocean sailing and the mainsail has a much smaller aroa to that normally carried by tho yacht, the foot of tho sail barely reaching to the end of the counter. It is intended, however, to cany the long boom so that tho larger sails can be used when possible.

The yacht is expected to leave her berth at 5.30 p.m., and after clearing Kawau, probably at the end of this week, it is proposed to set a course for Suva. From Fiji the course will probably be Norfolk Island, the Great Barrier Roef, Brisbane, Torres Strait and then the Eastj the 6ub6oquent movements being subject to a later decision, although it is intended to cross the Indian Ocean on the way to England, via Suez. Opportunity will bo taken to try out the racing capabilities of Heartsease as the voyage progresses, nnd it is hoped to have the yacht in English waters for the 300-mile PlymouthFastnet ocean race next summer.
