REVOLT IN SPAIN
EARLY MORNING BATTLE MONARCHIST MOVEMENT SERIOUS CASUALTY LIST t By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Received August 11. 1.15 a.m.) 5 MADRID, Aug. 10 , A Monarchist revolt broke out in s Madrid at dawn but the Government's s foreknowledge of the movement minimised I its seriousness. " An artillery brigade, supported the insurgents. Many arrests were made, in- • eluding sons of former members of the nobility. The rebels entered the Ministry of 1 Communications and also raided the War Office, but were driven out. 1 Communications abroad were cut off but have been re-established. Several ' people were killed or injured. ' Disorders arc also threatened elsewhere. '' The. Ministry of the Interior announces that the situation throughout the country . is under control. The War Office was the principal centre of the disturbance, the police and Civil Guard ejecting the raiders t after much firing on both sides, r The attackers then fled, leaving several I dead and wounded. The police suffered t several casualties. s The firing awoke all tho citizens and " there was great confusion, followed by ' a Republican demonstration demanding 1 the death of the leaders of the insurrection. k The Minister of the Interior declares 5 that the leaders received a large sum to • foment the agitation, which has been sup--5 ported by several generals and "retired > army officers. The revolt coincides with the issue of a warrant for the arrest of ox-King Alfonso, | several noblemen, former railway officials i and a British contractor, following upon | the report of a commission of inquiry into I railways concessions.
