HOCKEY CARNIVAL
NEW ZEALAND PLAYERS SOUTH AUSTRALIA BEATEN (Received August 10. 8.55 p.m.) SYDNEY. Aug. 10 The inter-State hockey carnival was continued to-dpy on the University Oval. New Zealand defeated South Australia bv 13 goals to 0. The losers were outclassed. The New Zealanders were great in forward play and in defence. Bay, Tnrbitt and Andrews revelled in goal-hitting. Reid, New Zealand forward, retired hurt, and two stitches had to be put in his left eye. Wellbourne replaced him and excelled himself on the hard ground. Munro, the captain, played fullback in the second half. Spiers, the crack back, unprecedentedly played centre-half, hoping to score. Ewan and Bollard, playing half, scored, this indicating the weak defence. The South Australian forwards were inexperienced. The game was not treated very seriously in tho second half. The scorers were:—Bay, five• Turbitt, three; ; Andrews, two; Reid, one; Ewan, one; j Bollard, one. i There will be a hard game to-morrow j for tho New Zealanders, against Western I Australia. The test team will be announced on Friday and the game will be broadcast on Saturday from station 2FC at 3.40 p.m. New South Wales to-day defeated Victoria by 3 goals to 1 after a hard, fast game. August, 4, defeated Crookwell, 4—o. i August 6, defeated Canberra, 6—o. August 8, defeated Kenmore, 10—2. ! August 10, defeated South Australia, 13-0.
