TROTS AT ADDINGTON
ARETHUSA'S PROSPECTS GREAT PARRISH IN FORM RETURN OF AUTHOR JINKS [IJY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] CKRISTCHURCn, Thursday , Training operations were again 1 old up ftt Addington this morning as-tho result of a scvero froat following tlio previous day's Snowfall. Consequently tliero .was no trade available for any description of work. Tho best performance on Tuesday was registered by Gold Country, who went a mile nnd a-quarter in 2.48 1-5. tho first mile in 2.15. The track waß slow. Tho Key do Oro pacer is in fine order. Wilbur "White and Huon Voyage went a mile and a-quarter in 2.55 in attractive fitylo. Neeoro, who lias made a lot of improvement of late, gave a pood exhibition of pacing against Free Advico and Tempest. ißollo easily bent Belinda over a milo and a-lialf in smart time. Tho former is very fit and both he and Belinda must bo considered in tho International Handicap of a mile on Saturday. 'Belinda should beat the gelding. Tho Advance Handicap on Saturday has drawn only seven acceptors, but thero is a prospect of a fino race. Lord Leslie is better than ho has yet shown. L. F. Birkett has his pair, Todd Bingcn and Nelsonian on hand at headquarters for tho week's racing. The former raced well at tho Canterbury Park fixturo in Juno but. taken to Auckland at tho end of tho samo month, ho finished unplaced on both days. Ho is evidently better Builcd by tho Addington track. He is forfeiting 3s to start in 3.3:2 class events at tho Metropolitan meeting. Tho reapperanco of Author Jinks on Saturday will be awaited with interest, as he has not raced since ho finished second in Wrnckler's New Zoaland Cup in November. 1930. "When seen last on the Addington training track thero could bo no fault found ivith his condition. Ho is now owned and trained by E. It. Husband. •Enawah arrived at Addington yesterday and made her appearance at the, track this morning. Tho mare bears a very bright uppearanco. As A, J. Juljan has decided not to be present at Addington arrangements have been made for J. S. Shaw to drive Heremai in her engagements whenever possible. Huon Voyage has evidently made a good recovery from the ailment which overtook him after he last raced. Ho does not bliow any signs of unsoundness at present, but his work has not been of a very serious nature. It remains to bo seen if he will be affected when he has next to race. G-reat Way mado a wonderful improvement during the past season and when raced at Addington in Juno gave first-class exhibitions of trotting, finishing second on both days to Biddy Panish, to whom he was conceding a start. These two look like providing thrills in the Stewards' Handicap on Saturday. Great Parrish looks in excellent order and should run right up to his best form in his near engagements. Arethusa will no doubt offer strong opposition in the principal event on Saturduy if Blie encounters a firm track, but she is far; irom being a good performer on heavy going. At present she is the popular choice for the August Handicap. Her old rival Red Shadow has proved himself a good one m the mud. J. S. Shaw has Gay Pareo in fine fettle to tackle the opposition in the slow-class trotters' races at tho approaching meeting. These events are expected to prove more interesting than usual. TAKANINI TRACK NEWS ■ SPRINT BY ALIGNMENT PRINCE OF ORANGE IN FORM The weather at Takanini yesterday was line, but very coid, and, although tho tracks wero iairly firm, there jvas not a great deal of fast work. The inside grass was in use. Royal Artist (Edwards), Arch Ruler (Forsyth) and Alushoor . (Farrell) set out for a working gallop over a mile. At the end of half a mile in 55 3-5s Maslioor began to feel tho pace and ho drifted to finish many lengths behind the other pair, who camo home strongly in 1.51. It was a nice piece of work on the part of lioyal Artist and Arch Ruler and showed bath to bo coming on well. Tea Trader (Walters) outpaced High Comedy (Edwards) in the early stages of a five-furlongs sprint and ho was slightly in front at tho finish in 1.7. ■ Tea Trader was under a pull throughout and did his work wr-ih his usual lreedom, whereas High Comedy moved lazily ftt tlio finish. Alignment (Gray) was eauily holding tho Weathervane -Sennight colt (Mclnally) at the end of a two-1 urlongs sprint in 28 l-ss. Alignment, who is making fino progress, could have done considerably better. Prince of Orango (Walters) was running on strongly at the end of five furlongs in 1.7 4-5. This horse is more forward than otherß on this track and ho should run a good race any time ho is produced. Imperial Prince (Taylor) was schooled over five hurdles. Ha was very slow at the first- two, but afterwards improved. His 'main fault is that he is too careful and doubtless he will do better when there is an opportunity of schooling him in comP About three weeks ago the two-year-old filly Thoughts (Gasbag—Queen of the Earth) suffered a bruised heel and & B , ft result she has since been absent from tno track. She has made a good recovery nnd was out working with others of I'. bmitn s te rm°w" l F& Chief ■ Prolyro, Gold Pocket. Bugle Call. Haihcur Bridge, Expectancy nnd Palaco were othors to get through useful work. • Tho two-year-olds Lady Artist and Oay Sliiela come out with P. E. 1 ? P u* n ! cr i~ noon workerß.
