SALE OF PICTURES
DISAPPOINTING RESPONSE A sale of pictures was conducted by Messrs. Richard Arthur, Limited, in thei* rooms yesterday. The contents of the studio of tlio well-known local artist, Mr. J. Douglas Perrett, were offered, there being over 70 pictures in the collection, representing somo fine examples of original etchings, water colours, French pastels and other mediums. , Although the majority of the works were by Mr. Perrett himself, water colours by Mr. Alex. Kerr, Mr. E. Aldis and tho English artist, Mr. E. Mariner, were prominent, while there were attractive etchings by Mr. A. Simes and Mr. Arthur Rouse. Tho responso, however, was disappointing, the prices ranging from half a guinea to £4 10s. One of the outstanding pic' lures of the display, "The Valley of the Dart, Wakatipu," by Mr. Porrett, was among those sold, and two original etchings by Mr. Arthur Rouse, "Tower Bridge" and "The Lower Thames," also attracted purchasers.
