ADVERTISING ROTORUA
BOROUGH COUNCIL'S SCHEME HELP BY DEPARTMENTS WANTED [by TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] ROTORTTA, Thursday It was reported at the meeting of the Rotorua Borough Council last evening that no reply had been received from the Railway or Tourist Departments in regard to their assisting in the proposed advertising campaign for Rotorua. Mr. 0. H. Colema a stated that the provision of £3OO on the estimates had been made on the supposition that the departments would help in the movement. He moved that a definite reply be asked for and if help was not forthcoming the amusement rate should not be struck by the council. Mr. E. Johnson said that if the departments would not c<-operate it would be useful to have the money for some other scheme. He suggested that it might be possible to hold a big sports carnival at the time of the opening of the new Blue Bath in October. Mr. Coleman considered it was no use spending money on carnivals before Christmas, and if no help was forthcoming from the departments, ho would be opposed to spending the £3OO. The Mayor. Mr. T. Jackson, was in sympathy with the suggestion that the departments be asked for a definite reply. It was desirable to have finality, but the amount of the rate should remain on the estimates. On being put to the meeting the motion was lost.
