1000 METRES RACE GRAY WINS HIS HEAT (lleccived August 2, 5.5 LOS ANGELES, Aug. 1 The first licaL in the .1000 njetres scratch cycling race was won by Chaillot (France) and the second by Van Egmojid (Holland). In llie third heat Gray (Australia) inimediately took the lead. Ho led Pelizzari and Thoiuas throughout, 'lho cyclists
dawdled in the early stages but tbo pace was increased in the final laps. Gray was novcr in danger of losing his hold on llio race. Ho cut out the last, 200 metres in 13 l-ss. Pelizzari was a length away. In (lifi 4000 metres Italy won the first heat and Britain the second.
