NEW YORK HOTEL . DEATHS AND DESTRUCTION SEVERAL PEOPLE INJURED By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright NEW YORK, Aug. 1 An explosion shook the 41-storcy Ritz Tower Hotel in Park Avenue, New York, to-day, killing five firemen and seriously injuring 25 others, of whom one is expected to die. Two women and two children are included in the list of injured. TJIO explosion, which blew out the fronts of stores and scattered a fortune in jewels ori the street, occurred in a basement while the firemen, were fighting a .fire in a paint shop in. the building. The ceilings of the lower floors and the fronts of shops lining the street level were wrecked. Thousands of dollars' worth of precious stones in a jewellery store blown into the debris, which filled a whole block of Fifty-seventh Street, between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue. The fire eventually was got under control. ~
