DAMAGES FOR INJURY
MAN KNOCKED DOWN BY CAR JURY AWARDS SUM OF £4OO [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Monday . An accident at Kilbirnie on the evening of May 29 last, in which Charles Richard Ingram, a retired public servant, of Rongotai, was struck by a motor-car and injured, had a sequel in a claim for £BOO damages against Robert George Thompson, salesman, of Miramar. The hearing was concluded in tho Supreme Court before Mr. Justice MacGregor and a jury this evening. A verdict was returned in favour of Ingram, and awarding him £4OO damages. At tho time of the accident the car was being driven by a son of Thompson, who was sitting alongside him. Tho sou obtained a driver's licenco the next day. Evidence was given indicating that the plaintiff walked across the street and was struck by the oncoming car. Thompson, in evidence, said he took Ingram home and offered to get a doctor, but Ingram declined, saying it was his own fault. The latter statement was denied by Ingram's wife.
