ANNIVERSARY DAY

MOVE TO FIX HOLIDAY Support for a proposal to observe the Anniversary Day holiday on the Monday nearest tho day on which tho holiday falls, unless it occurs on a Saturday, was given by tho Auckland Manufacturers' Association at a meeting yesterday. The suggestion has been mado by the Chamber of Commerce, which has invited tho opinions of other bodies interested. Mr. J. A. C. Allum said he was in favour of holding all similar movable holidays on . tho nearest Monday, as it seemed desirable to obtain a long weekend for tho holiday. After the president, Mr. S. Takle, had stated that shipping compa'nies did not favour making Monday a holiday, the meeting agreed to support the chamber.
