ELLERSLIE TRAINING

IMAMINT'S SMART SPRINT LORD AINTREE, HAMPTON PARK PSYCHOLOGIST REAPPEARS BY ARCHER A smart half-mile by Imamint mid a fairly solid five furlongs by Hampton I'ark and Lord Aintrco were the beat gallops at Ellerslie on Saturday, when training operations wero carried out under good conditions. All tho fast work was accomplished on the No. 1 grass, which was a trifle blow, although it provided cxcellont going for this timo of the year. The first to use the grass was a three-year-old gelding by Illumination from Te Akitai, who was sprinted up the straight, lie hit out satisfactorily, but is green and it will be soma time yet before he reaches good racing trim. Royal Survey (Lardner) and the Pantheon —lodine filly (Fuller) wore -not extended while running six furlongs in 1.27 3-5. They went evenly all the wny and appeared to relish their work. Eoyal Survey is full of niusclo and it should not bo for lack of condition if he fails in hisi early engagements in tho now. season. Catoma (Dougliorty) began quicker than Marching Song (Cair.mick), but they were together after going three furlongs in 41 2-5s and were still on terms at the end of seven in 1.36 4-5. Catoma was running on well at tho end, and Marching Song's effort was very creditable for a noviefc. Lord Aintrco (Parsons)- and Hampton Park (Fuller) ran five furlongs in 1.6 2-5. They finished together, but Lord Aintree had a good deal tho worse of the weights and did well to hold his own with Hampton Park, who is a good worker. Lord Aintrco is undoubtedly speedy, but has the reputation of being rather wayward at the barrier. Kiltowyn's Six Imamint (medium weight) went with plenty of dash while running half-a-mile in 51 3-ss. Tho Catmint mare is in the best of health and promises to bo in good form for tho spring meetings, when she should not be long in notching a win. The Pantheon—Dora's Double filly (L. Manson) held ft slight advantage over On Approval (Baker) when they had completed half-a-mile in 53 2-5». The Pantheon filly has been doing everything asked of her Unite satisfactorily. lviltowyu (Smith) placed Hix furlongs behind in 1.22 1-5 without any difficulty. The three-year-old lias been nominated in tho hack class at the Pnkuranga Hunt Meeting and it will be interesting to see how lie performs, us he has been doing his work well for a novice. Weo Musk ran an easy half-mile in 56 l-ss, and ltoyal Gallant (Clifford) just strode along for seven furlongs in 1.42 4-5. Itoyal Gallant has not been asked any seriqus questions lately, but he has been getting through some very useful work in good style. Croupier (Chaplin) and Wee Pat (Baker) were going easily to run five furlongs in 1.13 3-5. while Mahkill (Bigham) and Patutahi (C'ammick) worked usefully over a round in 2.5 .1-5. Mahkill is still inclined to go scratchily. Demylus Shapes Well Demy Jus (Baker) and Hispania (medium weight) sprinted four furlongs in 52 l-ss, a creditable effort for novices. Demylus is a five-year-old gelding by Poly'nestor from Ottawa and is one of tho biggest horses at headquarters. Ho has not yet been seriously tried, but ho has shaped promisingly in tho couple of sprints he has had lately. Egyptian King (medium weight) encompassed a round in 2.10 3-5. lie has improved in condition sinco coming to Ellersjie, but lias not recorded anything special in his work. Traced (Baker) and the King r> assail — Philetua filly (Cammick) reeled off three furlongs in 435. General Lu (Chaplin), Absent (Craddock) and Arapawa (Chote) were schooled over a round of tho steeplechase fences. General Lu. kicked up at tho finish, landed over the stonewall at tho end of the task just in front. Ho lost ground at tho first fence on the lull, but otherwise his fencing was satisfactory. Absent and Arapawa both gave fair displays. \fter being absent for some weeks, isychologist made a reappearance on the tracks and accomplished strong pace-work on the sand. Psychologist has put on a little flesh, but he has not been entirely idlo through his absence and should soon resume racing shape again. TOWN BEAUTY LAME DEVELOPMENT* AFTER GALLOP [llY TELEGRAPH —OWN COIUIESPONDENI] WELLINGTON, Sunday Town Beauty pulled up lamo nfler doing a strong rnilo gallop with Palm at Trimtham yesterday morning. When ho was beaten in tho July Steeplechase on thp coneluding day of tho Wellington meeting, it was noticed that he was limping on pulling up, but he has worked bo well since that tho trouble looked only temporary. However, it has apparently been developing, and ho has been very tender over tho week-end Town Beauty did not visit tho tracks this morning, but was walked over tho hills. It is hoped that tho trouble, which appears to be in tho tendons, will yield to treatment. and he is to go to Riccarton tomorrow evening, as scheduled. He will have a full week in which to recover, but it is a disquietening development at this stage. Palm and Gay Court will also leave to-morrow evening.
