SOME NOTABLE PERFORMERS PROSPECTS FOR NEW TERM TWELVE SELECTED HORSES BY ABAYDOS To-day marks the opening of the trotting season for 1932-33 and all horses aro a year older. During the season just closed trotting has maintained a very high standard, and many fine performances have been accomplished and some fresh records established. Harold Logan, the wonder horse of the last few seasons, in spite of reaching a very tight mark, won tho New Zealand Cup in his best stylo and also accounted for tho Free-for-all in hollow fashion. Royal Silk proved a high-class performer, winning, among several good handicaps, tho Auckland Cup und the New Zealand Gold Cup at Hutt Park. Ono of the etrikinc performances of tho season was Jewel Pointer's win in the Champion Handicap at Epsom, where he established a new track record of 2.40 1-5 for a mile and a-quarter. Another Auckland pacer to display splendid form was Kewpie's Triumph, who finished up tho season with a fine record over all distances. The Australian ' trotter Iluon Vovago created a fresh placed race record for an unhoppled horse when ho registered 4.22 1-5 at Addington, and another important feature of the season was tho successful conversion of Wrackler. n champion pacer, to tho trotting gait. The Westport mare Olive Nelson wiia also responsible for some highclass trotting efforts. Ciro and Tempest, both eons of Wrack, divided the three-year-old classic honours. Ciro succeeding in the Now Zealand Derby, while Tempest won tho Great Northern Derby. An Auckland three-year-old not engaged in the classic races who showed n lot of promise was Pegaway. and ho looks like turning out just as good as tho southern pair. Many novice and improving horses put up smart performances at the smaller meetings and some of these will go on to bettor things. Many horses who raced through the past season are likely to show improvement in tho new season, and 12 who aro expected to do well are:—Royal Silk. First Flight. Kewpie's Triumph, Colorado. Red Shadow. Travis. Chenaway. Luminate, Smooger. Tempest, Pegaway and Cimarron. CANTERBURY TROTTING NOTES W, J. TOMKINSON INDISPOSED W. J. Tomkinson has experienced the old tronlilo with his eyes during tho past two weeks and he has been more or less confined to his room during that period. lie has a fairly largo team entered for tho August fixture, and it is unfortunate that he should bo indisposed with tho meeting so close at hand. A. Brown is keeping Auto Miichino up_ to tho collar, and tho Australian-bred stallion is nutting a lot of heart into his work. The Canterbury trotting enthusiasts. Messrs. F. McKcndry. G. Aitchison. and J. Roclifort, have returned from a. holiday in Tahiti, which extended over a few weeks. During the vacation the party attended a. race meeting with a mixed trotting and galloping programme. Tho mode of speculation is by the Pari-Mutuel. on which horses may be backed straight out or for a P 'Arethusa, and Cranleigh are early favourites for the August Handicap, to be decided next Saturday, Nijnbus, Wrecker, Symmetry and Wild Guy are fancied for the Trial Handicap, and Cranleich and Gold Country for the International Handicap, one mile. TROTTING CLUB'S YEAR SUCCESS AT CAMBRIDGE [from OUll own correspondent! CAMBRIDGE. Saturday The annual meeting of tho Cambridge Trotting Club was held last evening, iir. R. Ilannan presided. In spite of a difficult year the position oE the club was revealed to be very satisfactory. Tho statement of accounts showed that the year commenced with a credit balance of £-1 IBs and concluded with a credit balance of £127 ]f,s.
