One and a-quarter lengths; one length. Time, lm 16s. I TRACK-WORK AT EPSOM GUID HAIRST IMPRESSES KEWPIE'S TRIUMPH'S CONDITION BY ABAYDOS. With the improved weather conditions and the dirt track in good order at Epsom, trainers with horses eligible for tlio Auckland trotting meeting this month, gave their charges useful tasks on Saturday. Carnui, Kewpie's Triumph, and Dan Direct, likely candidates for the principal race, worked solidly, while the trotters. Explosion and Moko Girl, gave useful displays. Among the lesser lights. Guid Hairst, Nellota and Manna's Son recorded creditable efforts. Guid Hairst (F. J. Smith) Nathaniel (W. Willetis) and Oliver Thorpe (J. Schaafo) went away in that order for a mile effort, and the first-nnmed was well clear at the half-milo in 1.14. Two furlongs from home Nathaniel and Oliver Thorpe closed on the leader, and at the entrance to tho straight, Oliver Thorpo dashed up to him. However, Guid Hairst finished strongly and was a length in front of tho other two at tho post, registering 1.9 2-5 for the final hutf. Kewpie's Triumph (K. Bell) ran lazily over a milo and a-half in 3.58. Ho increased the pace over the lost circuit, which was run at a- 2.27-mile clip. Kewpie's Triumph looks a picture and is in excellent condition to undertake serious work. Explosion (A. Allen) trotted in fino style over several laps, running tho last milo in 2.27, the last half in 1.12. Allen also sent Dad's Hope over two circuits at a useful gait, tho chestnut registering 1.12 for the first section. Both horses are in splendid shape. Carnui (F. J. Smith) worked a mile in 2.21. The first half was taken steadily, but pacing resolutely, Carnui ran the last half m 1.9. After jogging another circuit, he siipped over an extra half-mile in 1.8. finishing very strongly. Moko Girl (W. Dye) trotted faultlessly over several circuits. Accompanied by Marble Star (R. Millan) she lan a half in 1.15, and going on a further section by herself recorded 1.12. Marble Star ran over two separate quarters, in 38s. Both trotters maintained a correct gait throughout. Great Fame (A. I'atten) acted us pucemaker for Dan Direct (A. T. Ncwdick) over four laps. They kept a steady pace for three rounds mid finished up by traversing the last circuit at. a 2.33-mile rate. L'edlar (A. J. Julian) went out from Rolfe Audubon (L. Luvcr) for a mile and a quarter run, and with six furlongs covered in 1.18 he was throe lengths clear. Over the last quarter, Rolfe Audubon improved liis position and wan handy at the finish. Pedlar ran the journey in 3.0, the last half in 1.12. Little Guy (F. J. Smith) was hoppled up and v.ork solidly over three circuits. He was allowed to slip along over the Inst half-mile, which ho traversed smartly in 1.8 1-5. Little Guy put a lot of dash into liis final effort. Wee Machine (E. S Groat) gave a useful display of free-legged pacing. After neaatiating several laps at a moderate pace, ho stepped along to register 2.34 for a inilo. | Wee Machine paced very evenly over this Seam (L. McMahon) led Nellola (L. Mitchell) over the major portion of a mile and a-half work-out at a useful clip. The pace was increased to 1.13 for tho last half, ii ml Nellota, who made u forward move threo furlongs from home, finished on terms with Cold Seam. Manna's Son (E. S. Groat) was responsible for a fine display of trotting over several laps After sprinting occasionally over a furlong, tho young trotter completed a half-mile run in 1.14. doing his work ill verv easy fashion. Jeter (M. S. Groat) and Fisher (A. I. Newdi'k) were allotted free-legged tasks, but were not asked for speed. Jester, who is in mcu condition, pulled hold and HP peared anxious to increaso tho pace. Autumn Lu (G. Stubbs) trotted p onsinsly over three laps without being bustled. Allowed to step over a quarter along tho back, she showed a good turn of epeed. F J Smith's two-year-old Peterwah— Black Gold colt was geared up and given a couple of dashes over a quarter, onei ot which ho ran in tho smart time of 3/s. Tho name Ottawa has been churned for the youngster, who has been entered for tho 1933 Derbies. . . Rosalie's Triumph, who has rejoined A. J.
