RESEARCH SHIP'S STAFF
OFFICERS AND SCIENTISTS GUESTS OF MUSEUM COUNCIL The officers and scientific staff of the Royal research ship Discovery 11. were entertained at a dinner by the'council of the Auckland Institute and Museum at the Auckland Club on Saturday evening. In proposing the toast of the guests, the president, Mr. A. G. Lunn, referred to the common interests of the research ship and the museum in advancing scientific knowledge. Captain W. M. Carey, in com. mand of the ship, and Mr. D. John, senior research officer, replied, the latter expressing bis pleasure at the co-operation already effected with the museum staff. The Mayor, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, proposing the toast of the Institute and Museum, mentioned that the museum had been founded just 80 years ago. It had a precarious existence for the first 15 years. Mr. Hutchison expressed appreciation of the scientific and educational work being carried out. Replying, Mr. H. E. Vaile stressed the value of the exchange of information and ideas made possible by the ship's visit.
