ECONOMY COMMISSION.
FINAL REPORT COMPLETED.
NOT YET BEFORE CABINET.
[Br TEI/EGKAPH. —TOESS ASSOCIATION.] "WELLINGTON, Friday.
It is understood that the National Expenditure Commission, set up by the Government to review public expenditure and make economy recommendations, ha* finished its work, but the Prime Minister, the Kt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, stated this afternoon that the report had not yet been received by the Government. The report will cover a wider field than did the interim report furnished by the commission during the recent session of Parliament, for it will embrace the result of inquiries into the financial position of the bulk of the departments of State, whereas the interim report covered only one or two departments and the genera accounts. Mr. Forbes said the report would be given consideration by tha Cabinet before it was made public and possibly l would bo deferred for presentation o Parliament before it reached that stage. Much would depend on ths naturo of tho recommendations.
