WEEK-END ATTRACTIONS.
three football codes. OPENING OF THE SEASON. A wide variety of sporting fixtures has been arranged to take place at the weekend. The opening of the season will be held by the Fakuranga Hunt this morning. The Auckland Automobile Association will hold a hill-climbing contest' at Helensville this afternoon. All three codes of football will be repiesented, seven-a-side and practice games having been arranged. A knock-out seven-a-side Rugby tournament will be conducted at Eden Park, and an Association competition will take place at Blandford Park. Practice League games will be played at Carlaw Park, where a sports carnival conducted by the Rev. Jasper Calder will also be held.
Competitions have been arranged by most golf clubs. At Middlemore the Auckland Club will conduct a medal competition and the Titirangi Club will play the second round of the Taylor Bowl competition. Bogey handicaps will be played by the Maungakiekie and Glendowie Clubs.
Various bowling marches will be conducted on city and suburban greens. Amateur athletics will be held at the Outer Domain- ajid harrier clubs will conduct road races.
Cycling events include a 20-miles road race, to be run by the Auckland Club, a race from New Lynn to Swanson and back, arranged by the Auckland amateur Club, and contests conducted by the Manukau Amateur Club. There will be a race for small craft to Islington Bay, under the auspices of the Richmond Cruising Club, arid on the Manukau the Manukau Yacht and MotorBoat Club will hold races to Blockhouse Bay.
