RESOURCES OF CANADA.
APPLE BLOSSOM SUNDAY. An interesting address on tho history, constitution and resources of Canada, was given by Mr. C. M. Croft, Trade Commissioner for Canada, at tho monthly meeting of tho Overseas League on Tuesday evening. Mr. 0. O'liulloran presided over a good attendance of members. After paying a tribute to the work of the Overseas Leaguo as a link between the different portions of the Empire, Air. Croft outlined the early history of Canada from its discovery by Cabot in 1497 down to the establishment of the present Dominion in 1867, with a constitution much tho same as that of New Zealand. A series of beautiful lantern slides shown by Mr. Croft, gave some idea of tho handsome buildings of Canadian cities and the extensive lesources of the country. Particularly interesting were the views of tho widespread apple orchards of Eastern Canada, with tho speaker's reference to Apple Blossom Sunday, when special trains are run to bring city dwellers to the miles of pink bloom. Other interesting glimpses showed tho wheatfields of tho prairies with the latest developments of harvesting machinery, and tho giant elevators used for storing the grain. Views showing timber-pulp-ing, gold-mining, and the great salmon fisheries of the west, were also shown.
Before closing, Mr. Croft made special reference to the forthcoming conference at Ottawa, which he believed would prove one of (lie most momentous in the history of the Empire. Coupled with a vote of thanks to the speaker a resolution was passed wishing Mr. and Mrs. Croft a happy stay in Ottawa and a safe return.
