CANDIDATES FOR AWAPUNI.

WINDSOME HIND'S PROSPECTS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. The Cliokebore representatives. Straightcourse, "Winsome Hind, Porloek and Fleeting GJance, will leave for Awapuni tonight. All nro in good order and should race well at the Manawatu meeting. Winsome Ilind appears to have the best prospects of the quartette oil the first day, R. Coveny, who will ride these horses, will also have the mount on Great Star, who will contest the open sprint event in preference to Iho Prince of Wales Handicap. Gay Crest and Tout Lo Mond will also go north to-night in chargo of T. Lloyd. They will bo accompanied by B. Brodie, who will ride them in their engagements. The other Riccarton representatives, Nightmarch, Great Star, Grand Review. Rational 11. are expected to bo at Awapuni on Monday. A. E. Ellis has been engaged, to ride Nightmarch in the Awapuni Cup. The best gallop executed at lliccarton this morning was credited to Channeuse and Shatter, who raced abreast over seven furlongs on tho grass in I.2ft 1-5. The first half-mile took 49 l-sa. Shatter conceded about two stone weight to Cliarmeuse, and he appeared to be going tho easier at tho finish. Shatter should bo very difficult to beat over a mile arid a-fjuarter at the South Canterbury meeting next Saturday.

Another candidate for the same meeting, Minerva), showed good form by easily accounting for Elude over six furlongs. Mi nerval had Gay Crest, doing his best over seven furlongs on Thursday, so should ho kept in view for Saturday's engagement. Dunraven would bo much more in the limelight than ho is if ho would only race up to the form ho displays on tho track. To-day ho reeled ofl half a nnlo in 40 3-5s without being ridden out. One of his periodical surprise wins is again due, and ho will have his opportunity on Saturd a y.

One of tho most promising of the untried two-year-olds in work at Riccarton is Golden Dart, by Arrowsmith from Finora, a combination that should certainly produce ppeed. Golden Dart was very small as a yearling, but has grown considerably lately and is now an attractive youngster. This morning he ran half a. mile with the speedy Arrowmir under 495. Another two-yenr-old to attract attention, both by looks and action, is tho gelding by Agnon from Aldcbaran, by Kutala. Ho is a rich chestnut with whito facings, and appears likely to make a u&eful three-year-old. He is trained by F. Christmas and will race under tne name of Usquebaugh. It is likely that h's will have his first, outing at the Amberley meeting al the end of tho month.
