DESPERATE BANDIT. FATAL SHOOTING AFFRAY. SEQUEL TO POLICE CHASE. EV Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. VANCOUVER. March 28. The most notorious bandit in Vancouver, William Bngley, broke away from a hiding-place where he had been for threo months, stole a policeman's car and finally fought a gun duel with a parly of oTicers. 110 killed one officer and then escaped. Bngley, a convicted bank robber, and four other men broke out of gaol in December. Three of tho men were recaptured, but Bngley arid a companion named Fawcett escaped. Within the last throe weeks they have robbed four sntes and terrorised the inhabitants of two coastal villages. 'J hey were preparing to commit another bank robbery when they were seen by a police officer named Cameron who trailed them in his car until tho bandits seized him and made him a prisoner in his own vehicle, which they forced him to drive. Later Fawcett returned to the city to pick up a cache of rifles and the polico captured him. In the meanwhile Bngley became suspicious and hailed a passing motorist. Ho used Cameron's polico badge, took possession of the car and started back to tlie city to see what hid happened to Fawcett. Tho polico followed Bagley and forced his car into the kerbstone at the side of a street. The bandit leaped out and began to shoot, a gun in each hand. lie killed one officer, Maxwell, and escaggd through a dark lane. The biggest manhunt in tho history of the city is proceeding.
