ALLEGED ASSAULTS.

PRISON DISTURBANCES. DARTMOOR MUTINY SEQUEL. (Rcceivsrl March 13, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON. March 12. Two Dartmoor prisoners, Thomas Davis aYid David Brown, were to-day charged at Tavistock respectively with wounding an officer, Ernest Birch, on January 22 and with attempting to wound an officer, Arthur Udy, two clays later. It. was stated in evidence that Davis 'was exercising on the date named in the charge, when lie jumped on Birch, whose back was turned, and cut his cheeks with a razor-blade inserted in a stick. Assisted by other officers Birch overpowered him. The officer said lie could not say how many prisoners had been flogged because of his reports. His losing count was not due to their number.

Medical evidence was given that, Davis was found to have a. broken rib after the mutiny in the, gaol on January 21. It was stated that. Brown tried to cut Udy with a razor-blade attached fo a stick, when Udy entered his , cell after having been defied to take Brown out on January 24. Two other officers helped to overpower Brown, whose head was struck with a, baton. He was carried to hospital insensible. Both accused were committed for trial.
