DISPUTE ABOUT CATTLE.
A SHOTGUN PRESENTED. FINE IMPOSED ON FARMER. " A farmer residing at Albany, Cyril Seay, was fined by Mr. F. K. Hunt. S.M., in the Police Court yesterday, when ha was charged with presenting an unloaded firearm at Sidney Bruton on February; 10. Seay pleaded not guilty. Evidence was given by Bruton that he •had a dispute with defendant regarding straying cattle. A cow which strayed: from witness' property had been milked by defendant, and witness remonstrated. Seay had threatened to begin a fight, and witness then said, " If you do, you should have, lead put into you." Upon this remark, Seay went inside his house and returned with a shotgun, which hfe pointed at witness. Bruton said he thought at the time the weapon was loaded. For the defence it was alleged that Bruton hail said Seav " should have a bullet put in him." Seay took up the shotgun to show Bruton that he was prepared, but denied that he had pointed it at Bruton. In fining Seay £1 and costs, the magistrate remarked that a tragedy might easily have occurred had the shotgun been loaded.
