NEW FIRE BRIGADE.
BIRKENHEAD ARRANGEMENTS Since its constitution more than a year; ago, the Birkenhead Fire Board has com centrated upon providing an adequate fire- !; fighting organisation for the district. A! brigado was formed, with Mr. J. Fother* ingham as superintendent, and it has held regular practices. A section in Mokoia Road was selected as the site for the fixe station, a contract for the erection of which was let to Messrs. Hall and Broady >: of Northcote. Tho building has been completed. With the exception of the motor fire engine, which will not arrive in New Zealand until early next month, the equipment for tho brigade is now available. An electric alarm system has been installed, comprising 12 street alarms, and a siren at the fire station.
