SHARK LEAPS INTO BOAT.
SAILING RACE INCIDENT.
BOY STRUCK IN BACK.
During a sailing race at Bramble Bay, Queensland, lately, the crew of Shamrock, owned by Mr. J. Johnstone, acquired additional ballast in the form of a three-foot grey nurse shark, which leaped into their boat at the mouth of Cabbage Tree Creek. When the Shamrock was endeavouring to pass another boat the intruder came aboard between the main and leeward stay, striking the bailer boy in the middle of his back. Thinking that some of his mates were playing a practical joke, the bailer boy turned round with the intention of drenching them with the contents of the bailing can. The lad soon discovered that he had an unwelcome companion, and lost no time in scrambling to the other side of the centreboard. The forward hand killed the struggling shark with a spinnaker pole, and the "catch" was taken to land as evidence.
