COLLISION WITH TRAIN.
FINE IMPOSED ON MOTORIST.
As a sequel to a slight collision between a motor-car and a railway engine at the
Te: Pa papa railway crossing on January 28 a motorist, Henry T. Watlicsw, wns / charged in the Onehunga Police Court yesterday with failing to observe Hie by laws prohibiting traffic from crossing the railway lino in front of an approaching train.
Sergeant S A. Brown said the incident occurred about 4 o'clock in the afternoon. Defendant was crossing the line before he noticed the train. He swerved, but the front of the engine struck tln> car. The damago to the engine amounted to £2 14s Id, and the department asked that this be paid by defendant.
Defendant was fined £1 and 10s costs. The magistrate said he could make no order regarding the account for repairs, and counsel said defendant had under taken to meet it.
