DEVELOPMENT OF LAND.
AREAS IN KING COUNTRY. CHANCES FOR UNEMPLOYED. [FROM OUR OWN' ('OFIRES I'ONtVKNT."I TK KIJITI, Saturday. A meeting of ratepayers was held in To Kniti to make suggestion's regarding suitable areas for close settlement, following on the request of the Minister in charge of Unemployment. Mr. W. .1. It road foot, MT\, slated that in the district there were, Crown lands, native lands and privately-owned lands that would repay investigation along the lines suggested. There should be proper supervision of development and a local committee would bo necessary to direct schemes in conjunction with local government oflicers as desirable. Mr. Broad font also offered suggestions with regard to the employment of men under a group scheme in order to work at as low cost as. possible. Mr. J. C. Rolleston, in supporting the previous speaker, added that if the scheme was put into operation, only the land which was already provided with facilities for development should have first consideration. The speaker stated that there were many areas in the King Country where bush had been felled, and the land could be quickly brought in by logging. It was decided to recommend several areas which were considered suitable for immediate development.
