ANGLING AT TAUPO.
GOOD CATCHES REPORTED. FISH IN BETTER CONDITION. NO SHORTAGE IN ANY WATERS. [from our own correspondent.] ROTORUA, Saturday. Further good bugs are reported from the Taupo fishing district, and latest reports received by the Conservator of Fish and Game for the Rotorua. Acclimatisation district, Mr. A. Kean, indicate that: the. fish taken are improving in condition every day. After the first influx at the beginning of the season, the number of visiting anglers has fallen off, but. launches are still being, kept busy, and have, hail catches of up to 26 for a day's fishing. Some splendid fish have been landed both on the fly and spoon, and general reports indicate that, there is no shortage of fish in any of the waters, A large number of fish have been taken in Tnkaanu Bay hv trolling parties. The condition of the tisli in this part of the lake is not yet all that could be. desired, but is improving. Fishing in Whakaipo Bay, Mr. .Talbot and party took 12 good fish averaging the heaviest weighing 71b. In the same, bay, Dr. Pinfold and party, using the spoon, took 26, fish averaging the heaviest fish weighing 6lb. Another trolling party in Whakaipo Bay, Messrs. Paul and Reynolds, took 21 fish, averaging 51b. A Taupo party, fly-fishing in the same water, took 20 fish, also averaging 511). In addition, dry fly catches of from three to 10 fish have been taken in Taupo waters, while in the Wniknto River, above the Huka Falls, 10 to 20 rods have been out each evening.
At the Aratiatia Rapids. Mr. G. Criekel, of Taupo, fly-fishing at, the Araliatia Bapids, took 12 fish, averaging sAlb., (1 10 heaviest weighing" 9Jlb. I'mir of the fish wore over 61b. in weight, and all were in excellent, condition. With three other rods, Mr. Cricket also secured a good bag some days later at the rapids. Sixteen iisli averaging 41b., the heaviest weighing 611)., were taken on Iho fly. Messrs. Marlow Brothers also fished the rapids and took 34, averaging 3£lb. Fishing in the bly Pool, Messrs. Donglas and Benouf, of llawke's Bay, secured a bag of 13, but the fish wore only in fair condit ion. Three rods, Messrs. Fuljames and party, took 102 fish, averaging 51b., in Wliangamata Bay for a week's fishing. Three 101b. (ish were taken in the hag, and six of the catch were between 71b. and 81b. Both the spoon and fly 'were used, and all the lisli were in good condition. There have been very few anglers in the Tongariro district since, the opening of (ho season. Since November 1, one local angler has taken 109 fish, averaging 51h., Iho largest being 81b. Another Tongariro angler, since the opening of the season, has taken 50 fish, averaging 4;ib. Tauraoga-Taupo, Motutere, and Jellicoe Point have been very little fished. Good Catches by Launches. Some very good catches are reported on the Waitahanni. Two rods on November 16 took nine fish, the heaviest, weighing 3lib., ..nd the average being 6^lb. Another party of four took 23 fish, alt in good condition and averaging figlh. Fishing on the two, three, and four-mile bays is stated to ho patchy, although a number of anglers have been, on this favourite stretch and have all met with fair success. All launches that have been out, have had good catches, and bags of from 16 to 26 have been the usual catch for a dav's fishing. Anglers using row-boats in the bav and at the outlet are all reported to he doing fairly well. The average of the fish in this area is 51b., and fish up to 91b. in weight have been taken.
