H- Campbell, formerly aide-de-camp to the Governor of: Queensland, arrived by the Sierra from Sydney on Saturday on a month's fishing holiday. He is accompanied by Mrs. Campbell and they are at the Hotel Car-' gen. Mr. L. F. Sarten, who has been manager of the Upper Queen Street branch of the National Bank of New Zealand for the. past seven years, has been appointed audit officer. He will leave for Wellington early next week to lake up his new position. Mr. W. C. Weston, of New Plymouth, Mr. E. C. Ferrier and Mr. L. Langvoldt, of Christchurch, Mr. K. Holden Webb, who will retiro next month from the service of tha Eastern Extension Cable Company, is at present on leave in New Zealand. Mr. Webb joined the company at Cable Bay, Nelson, 30 years ago. and performed inosf, of his service at Singapore and other Eastern stations. He intends to make his home at Nelson. Mr. E. C. Pajxton, Mr. C. Warren and Mr. R. Dundas Smith, of Sydney, Mr. C. R. Pinder, of London. Mr. M. L. Stiver, Mr. F. E. James, Mr. R. .T. H. Cox, Mr. D. R. Hoggard, Mr. W. H. Kent and Mr. W. W. Norwood, of Wellington, Mr. R. W. D. Robertson, of NewPlymouth, and Mr. J. H. Fotheringham, •cf Dunedin, are at the Grand Hotel. Mr. H. W. Franklin, manager of the outdoor advertising branch, of the New Zealand Railways, has retired after 35 years' service. Mr, Franklin joined the department in Christchurch, and after experience in the district engineer's office was transferred first to Dunedin, then to West port and later to Wellington". He was appointed to file advertising, branch in 1924 and was promoted in 1928 to the position from which he has now retired.
