FESTIVAL OF EMPIRE.
GREAT LONDON SPECTACLE. SHOWER OF MILLION POPPIES. By Telegraph—Presfi Association—Copyright. (Received November 12. 0.5 p.m.) LONDON. Nov. 11. The King and Queeri attended the Empire festival of remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall this evening. The Prince of Wales was also present. An impressive picture of the Empire confronted the Royal box. Spotlights above the platform picked out, the Union Jack floating over the banners of St. George, St. Andrew and St. Patrick and the flags of the Dominions. A touch of colour was given by Chelsea pensioners in their scarlet coats, marines in blue tunics avid white helmets, blueuniformed sailors, and British and Dominion soldiers and nurses.
The King and the Prince of Wales had memories of Flanders recalled hy a film showing them the trenches. As representatives of the various fighting services marched in to wartime tunes the Prince leaned forward and pointed thern out to the Queen.
The most solemn part of the festival was introduced by the pipers of the Scots Guards playing " Flowers of the Forest." Buglers of the Life Guards sounded the Last Post. While the voices of the. choirboys rose in the hymn of sacrifice, " 0 Valiant Hearts," more than a million poppies fluttered down from the roof, one for every fallen man.
As the silent scarlet shower ended, a great cross outlined in poppies shone over the audience, which joined in singing the hymn, " Abide With Me."
The festival concluded with trumpets sounding the .Reveille.
