POSITION AT HAMILTON.
REDUCTION IN GRANT. MUCH CONCERN CAUSED. NO WORK FOR SINGLE MEM. [from ovr own correspondent.] HAMILTON, Tuesday. Much concern has been caused among the unemployed in Hamilton by an announcement that the allocation for relief in the district has been reduced by £BS this week. As a result of the cut, the Government Labour Bureau has advised that no single men could be employed until the financial position was known. Owing to the reduction, one of the largest yet made in the grant for Hamilton, it will be impossible to pay wages to any single men this week. Every married man will receive about four hours less work, representing a reduction of 6s 3d each in the usual relief rates of pay. It is stated there are still a number of vacancies at the Waitomo camp for single men. Next week will bo the "off" week for all unemployed in the district, with the exception of a few men engaged by the Waipa County Council.
