LEASING PUBLIC RESERVE.
PROPOSAL AT PAPATOETOE. BOARD DEFERS DECISION. A discussion as to whether the leasing of part of the public reserve 011 the Great South Road to the Papatoetoe Bowling and Croquet Club would constitute a precedent and so compel the Papatoetoe Town Board to giant similar leases to other local sports bodies, took place at the Papatoetoe Town Board meeting last evening. The proposal to lease the bowling green was considered by tho board recently and it was then decided to ascertain the cost of promoting the necessary legislation. At the meeting last evening Mr. J. Bryant said he understood a petition against the proposal was being canvassed in the district, ft had been stated that if the proposed lease were granted other sports bodies would present similar applications. Mr. J). J. Morgan said that if other sports bodies asked for leases and put forward proposals similar to those made by the Bowling Club the board would favourably consider them. The chairman, Mr. W. J. Nicholson, suggested that the whole matter be deferred until details of the cost of promoting the bill were to hand. This course was adopted.
