PRESENTATION.

At a smoke concert held in liis honour at Taihapo by the Taihapo fire brigade, Mr. J. Mortland, superintendent of the brigade, was presented with -the gold star, for 25 years' service. Mr. Mortland joined the Kniapoi brigade in 1906, and served there for three and a-half years before joining the Taihapo brigade, of which he has now been a member for nearly 22 years. Mr. Mortland is a past president of the Wellington United District Fire Brigades Association, and is well known in fire brigade circles in Now Zealand.
