ELLERSLIE TRAINING.

TANEFMRI'S SIX FURLONGS. A VERY SOLID EFFORT. GAY COCKADE'S HALF MILE. The course proper at Ellerslie v. as open for galloping yesterday morning, the poles being about 60ft. out from the rails. The going waa heavy, but it dried up somewhat under the influence of the sun and a Btrong wind. With the horses galloping into the ground and the oxtra distance covered outsido the poles the times were very elow. A little fast work was also executed on the No. 3 grass track. The best gallop of the morning went to the credit of Taneriri, who easily beat Catoma and Tctrarchatc by several lengths at the end of a solidly-run six furlongs. Others to go very well were Full Measure and Gay Cockade. Gold Money went five furlongs on the course proper, and, after taking 28 3-5s for the first two. completed tho distance in 1.13. She was never travelling at top at any part. Golden Spahi ran eix furlongs in 1.25. going comfortably throughout, and Tamarado came home three furlongs in 'lis. Restaurant and Titanetle took 1.12 3-5 for five furlongs. The Marton-tra ined Habit was accompanied by Fufl Measure and Sir Mond over six furlongs. Full Measure led for most of the way, running tho first two furlongs in 28 2-5s and three in -11 4-ss. Habit was eased up in the straight. Full Measure going on to finish just ahead of Sir Mond in 1.25. This wns a good effort and indi cates that Full Measure is very well and should run prominently in his spring engagements. Sir Mond is ramdly coming to hand and ought to do even better than last season. Habit looks as if she luis done plenty of work. This daughter of Thespian and Cowl is to contest tho open seven furlongs and mile races at the Auckland meeting and may show up. Brampton and Good Idea went fairly well to run six furlongs in 1.26. after the initial three had occupied 41 4-ss. Karangapai's Six Furlongs. Karangapai was not asked to do his very best when accompanied over six furlongs by the maiden performer Moonfleet. They cut out the first three in 41 3-5b and completed their task in 1.25 2-5. Moontieet went very well and should not be difficult to place shortly. Karangapai is fust approaching his best form, and. oven if bo should fail in the Champion Hack I late tomorrow. his turn cannot be far away. Lady Court and Art Gallery began rather slowly when they jumped off at the aixfurlongs peg, and, after they took 43 1-os for the first half of the journey, they completed their task in 1.27. Te Money took 1.30 for the same distance. Land Measure and Patutahi set out to go once round, but after going half a mile the former jarred herself and later was pulled up Patutahi was left to it and he went very well indeed, hitting out freely to complete the round in 2.21. He is in good fettle and should perform well in tomorrow's hurdles contest. Unless Land Measure recovers quickly, she may not be able to race at Avondale. Excella Tea covered five furlongs in 1.12 1-5, the last half-mile taking 56 2-ss. Cat-i-mes and Bonny Mumble cut out the first two of their five furlongs in 28s. but they were stopping at the finish, their time being 1.11 4-5. Dark Prince, who may take on the open hurdles the second day at Avondale. completed a round in 2.23 2-5. After breakfast, when the going on the course proper had improved considerably, Sir Archie beat Desert Star over half-a-mile in 55 3-ss. Both could have done better if they had been pushed along. Great Emblem appeared to be going almost as well as Wild Country at the conclusion of a solid gallop over eix furlongs They covered the first two in 27 3-5s anc the three in 40 4-ss. Great Emblem acting as pacemaker, and they crossed the * in€ almost together in 1.21 4-5. Great Emblen went very well. Malahat Shows Dash. Although regarded as not a good tracl worker, Malahat put more than his usun dash into a gallop in company with Stand fast. ,hoth horses fbeing engaged in the Avon dale Cup. They jumped off from the nev mile post, running tho first quarter in 25f and the half-mile in 54 3-ss. They finishec the mile in 1.53 3-ss, with Malahat forgint wjell ahead of Standfast over the last half a-furlong. Standfast looks very well, bir he was tiring at the end. Malahat finishec full of running and he looks a better horsi than when he won the big handicap a last month's Pakuranga Hunt meeting After his gallop Malahat walked away lame but the trouble is only slight. The Avondale Maiden candidate Tarporlej and Bennie were allowed to easily ovei six furlongs in 1.30. Tarporley is to mnlu his turf debut to-morrow and interest is be ing evinced as to how he will fare. Taneriri was responsible for the star turr of the morning. He was partnered by Ca toma and Tetrarchate, and the hack carriec them along to the straight. Once in line however. Taneriri soon made up his leeway and after gathering them in he left them massing the post four lengths ahead. the first furlong took 14 2-ss, two 28s and three 11 4-os, the time uo to this stage being « bit slower, under the improved conditions than earlier gallops. However, the pace was then clapped on and they finishec strongly over the last bit, Taneriri s * inlf being 1.23 4-5. Catoma was inclined tc loaf at the end and was given a remindei or two with tho stick. Tetrarchate'a show ing indicates that he is improving. It was a brilliant performance on Tane riri's part, for he had T. Chaplin as hi; pilot and was therefore carrying a good ml more than the 8.10 ho has in the Avonank Cup. Taneriri has come through a strenn our preparation in brilliant fashion, anc based on a solid foundation laid as the re suit of several races throughout the winter it can almost be taken for granted that he will strip the fittest horse at Avondale to morrow. , , , ~ Pewa and Curie were not asked to galioj fast, their seven furlongs taking 1.41. the last eix being left behind in 1.28. They are well forward after their racing atwa nganui, where fhe.y performed creditablj and earned place-money. Sprint by Gay Cockade. Gay Cockade's Avondale Cup preparatior was completed with a half-mile sprint lr 53 4-sb, an excellent effort under the con ditions, the time being the best for this distance. , , Capcre and Light Step ran five furlongs 11 1 9 4-5 which was a promising effort, foi novices'. The first two occupied 27 3-ss. The two-year-olds .Jewelled C.ircile anc Whirlalong were sprinted four furlongs, tak in" 555, the latter shaping the better, but she is much more forward than Jewellec °M d anawhenua, with the worst of the weights, had to be kept up to his . task tc finish with the lightly-weighted Puriri Pari at the finish of a five furlongs sprint, they cut out the first two in 27s and conclude, their work in 1.8 3-5. This was a smar gallop, suggesting that these horses should show up in their engagements at Avondale This was the best five furlongs of tho morn l "cny Lap had to bo held back to Auto hi a maiden performer, in running six fur longs in 1.27 3-5, after cutting out tht first three in 41 3-5«. Gay Lap moveci very nicely and it is apparent that he lyu not been allowed to lose his condition Hi* form in the winter was most impressive foi a, hack, and he looks as if lie- will run a good race in the Champion Hack 1 late to m United beat The Jack Jumper at the end of six furlongs in 1.28 1-5. Hispana, the Ifumbug-Armadillo nlly in E. C. Roe's stable, displayed plenty of pace when sprinted with another two-year-old, the Musketoon-Lady Ridicule filly. Hispana finished in front at the end of three furlongs in 40 l-s"\ which was quite a good performance, and she looks like coming tc liand early. '.mi Billy Hoy, Scaramotiche, bt. Lucas nncl Day Lark finished in that order at the end of ft round in 2.24. Day Lark had been . schooled just previously over the big lencct on the flat Valroo's Soreness. Valroe was worked on the tan, being sent along over the last few furlongs. 110 if still sore, so that Avondale Cup prospects are not very bright. Ruling King ran six furlongs on tho JNo 3 grass in 1.21 4-5, and shaped in improved stvle. , ~ Town Beauty, after schooling, went six furlongs in 1.23 2-5. He is very forward View Halloo hit c.ut with great dash when sent over five fnrlongß, running the first two ill 28a and the full distance in 1.6 4-5 lie is a very nice mover and apparently has improved since his race in the Wanganui Guineas. Town Beauty (H. Dulieu) gave a, fine display when he went over the steeplechase fences on the flat, a good effort that wat) repeated when ho was sent over them a second time. , . Kawainga (J. Preston) was schooled ov,er the hurdles in the centre and showed proDl Good Boy (R. Olive! baulked at the schooling hurdles several times before he was induced to jump them. Ihe chestnut is not taking very kindly to hurdling Day Lark (J. Sharkey) negotiated the steeplechase fences on the flat in less style, and he should be in fine or^ r for his cross-country engnneraents a,t the Auckland meeting. . , Patutahi (R. Olive) made 710 mistakes when he was put over #, couple 01 the cchooling hurdles.
