EUROPEAN VIOLINIST.
RECITAL THIS EVENING. Zlatko Balokovic, the noted European violinist, who arrived in Auckland in his private yacht yesterday, will give his opening recital in the Town Hall this evening. Concerts will also be given on Thursday and Saturday evenings. The violinist has been received with enthusiasm both in Australia and the South. Writing of his opening Wellington recital a critic said:—"Balokovic is absolutely legitimate in his art —he has no tricks, and never stoops to conquer by the adoption of any meretricious aids to popularity; lie made his splendid impression as much by the variety of his conceptions and his flawless fingering, as he did bv th" warm, glamorous toneoof_ f his treasured Guarnerius. Sincerity is his keynote. Music to him is something fraught with a beauty that is not to be taken lightly. Perhaps that is what makes him such an admirable exponent of Bach. Though ho played Handel, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Sarasate, and otheis, it was as an interpreter of Bach that ho made his deepest impression.
