OBITUARY.
MR. S. J- LAUGHLIN. The death has occurred of Mr. Samuel Jamieson Laughlin, of Epsom Avenue, at the age of 73 years. He had been resident in the Dominion for about 65 years, having come from County Down, Ireland, with his mother when eight years of age. His father had come to New Zealand some time previously. Mr. Laughlin was educated at Thames. He worked in various batteries on the Thames goldfields, rising to the position of battery manager, and "later mine manager. He retired from goldmining in 1899 to take up land at Netherton. where he took a prominent part in public life. He was a member of the Thames Harbour Board and the Thames Hospital Board, and Netherton representative on the Ohinemuri County Council. About a year ago he came to live in Auckland.
MR. H. 11. McCATHIE. [FHOM OCR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CAMBRIDGE, Monday. The death occurred on Saturday evening at Hamilton of Mr. Henry H. McCathie, a well-known Cambridge resident, at the age of 51 years. Mr. McCathie was born in Strathmiglo, Fifeshire, Scotland, where he learned his trade as a tailor. He spent short periods at Wellington and Wanganui before, establishing his tailoring business in Cambridge about 10 years ago. He was the president of the Cambridge Bowling Club at the time of his death and was also a prominent member of the Masonic Order, the Chamber of Commerce and the Presbyterian Church. Mr. McCathie leaves a wife, two sons and two daughters.
