PENNY AN OUNCE INCREASE. DECISION OF ASSOCIATION. The price o! all tobaccos is to bo increased by one penny an ounce, according to a decision made by the Auckland Tobacconists' Association last evening. It was stated that the full effect of the increased costs was not being passed on to the public. -The duty on cut and plug tobaccos was recently increased by Is 4d a pound, which is equivalent to a penny an ounce, but the wholesalers are charging the retailers Is 6d and Is 7d a pound more in order to cover the surtax.

An increase in price has already been made in some shops, but that is said to be duo to the necessity for drawing on new stocks. The general increase will apply from to-day.
