CIGARETTE COUPONS.

OPINION OF TOBACCONISTS. SYSTEM CONDEMNED. Satisfaction with the proposal to abolish the coupon system as from April 30 next was expressed by the Auckland Tobacconists' Association last evening, when the Trading Coupons BilJ, recently introduced in Parliament, was discussed. Several speakers condemned the coupon system as it applied to cigarettes, and the opinion was expressed that, if the bill went through in its present general form, coupons would no longer bo placed in cigarette packets, as it was unlikely that the promoters of the scheme would be willing to redeem the coupons for cash. Oue member said the sooner the trade was placed on its former footing, the better it would bo.

A motion, condemning the coupon system, was passed "without dissent, although ono or two members felt it would bo wiser to express no opinion in view of the likelihood of the bill boing passed this session.
