PREMATURE EXPLOSION.

RELIEF WORKER INJURED.

CONDITION FAIRLY SERIOUS. The premature explosion of a blasting charge caused serious injuries to Mr. Alexander Baxter, aged 20, of 18, Carrick Place, Mount Eden, who was struck byflying pieces of rock. Mr. Baxter, who is a relief worker, was engaged in carrying out improvements to the grounds of the Teachers' Training College, Epsom. The rocky nature of the grounds has necessitated a considerable amount of blasting for levelling purposes. Mr. Baxter suffered severe lacerations to the face, hands and arms, and was taken to the Auckland Hospital. His condition last evening was fairly serious.
