VOLUNTARY TRAINING.

Sir, —Voluntary training seems to be getting firmly established and will, without doubt, produce tlio best type of soldier. Tho ago limit, however, prevents many strong and intelligent men from offering their services in the training of this new array. I think room should be made for warrant and noncommissioned officers whose war services include a special course in defence against gas and the manipulation of all new arms, etc. An age limit of, say, 45, and medically fit, would open tho door as instructor to many *a scarred but virile old hand whose lectures and practical demonstrations would be of inestimable value. To my mind, they would be a great asset, but are evidently to be discarded. Old Contemptible.
