POLICE COURT NEWS.
STOLE WHILE DRUNK. MIDDLE-AGED MAN FINED. Charges of drunkenness and theft were admitted by William Cant, aged 57, labourer, in the Police Court yesterday. Detective-Sergeant Kelly stated that on Monday pfternoon accused, while under the influence of liquor, entered a shop in Karangahape Road and stole five lead pencils valued at 2s 6d. "Accused has continually been before the Court for some considerable time, and this is his 42nd appearance," added Mr. Kelly. The magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, fined Cant £2, with the alternative of seven days' imprisonment. For being disorderly while drunk in the bar of a city hotel, Owen Mulholland, aged 28, and James Francis Loftus, aged 34, ship's firemen, were each fined 10s, in default 48 hours' imprisonment;.
