THE TRANSPORT BILL.
SOME PROVISIONS OPPOSED. FARMERS' CONFERENCE REPORT. [BY TELEGEAPH.—PHES.'S ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Friday. Opposition to some of the provisions of the Transport Licensing Bill now befora Parliament was expressed at the Farmers'Union conference to-day^ The following recommendations were made to the conference by the Transport Qommittee: —(1) That the licensing districts should be the present highways districts;. (2) that the appointment .of members to district licensing boards should ;be on the recommendation, of district highways councils; (3) that clause 47' (1) relating to licences of vehicles carrying goods should be more clearly defined so as to protect the interests of the farming community; (4) that in all cases where licences are to be granted or renewed for definite routes or services tenders should be called for such services.
It was decided to accept the committee's report as an interim report and refer the Transport Bill to the executive and the Transport Committee,- v with a view to tendering evidence before the special committee set up by the House of Representatives to consider the bill. REPORT FOR CITY COUNCIL. STATEMENT BY THE MAYOR. "I have not yet, had time to study it," said the Mayor of Auckland, Mr. G. W.Hutchison, yesterday, when asked to comment on the provisions of the Transport Bill. However, he said, the chief traffic inspector, Mr. G: R. Hogan, had been asked to present a report on the bill foi consideration by the Legal and Bylaws Committee next week.
