PROGRESS OF NEW SCHEME.

EXAMINATION OF RECRUITS.

FEW FAIL TO PASS TEST.

Satisfaction with the progress made 4n recruiting under the new military training scheme, was expressed yesterday by Colonel J. E. Duigan, officer commanding the Northern Commandj' who said the medical examination of recruits was proceeding. Already examinations had been held for those wishing to join the 3rd and 4th Batteries and for details of the North Auckland Regiment. On Tuesday 55 recruits for the 4th Battery were examined and 51 were passed as fit. Of the 30 examined for the 3rd Battery all passed the test.

Further examinations of those wishing to-enlist™ have been arranged as follows Ist Battery, Drill Hall, Narrow Neck, July 13; 3rd and 4th Batteries, Drill Hall, Auckland, July 14; 21st Battery, Drill Hall, Onehunga, July 15; Army Service Corps, Drill Hall, Auckland, July 15; Ist Field Company New Zealand Engineers, Drill Hall, Auckland, July 15; New Zealand Medical Corps, Drill Hall, Auckland, July 16; 18th Battery, Drill Hall, Auckland, July 20; Northern Depot New Zealand Corps of Signals, Drill Hall, Auckland, July 21; 20th Battery, Drill Hall, Auckland, July 21; 13th Battery (coast), Artillery Yard, Devonport, July. 122. "

Members of tho 3rd Battery who failed to present themselves for examination ort the last occasion will be examined at the Drill Hall, Auckland, next Tuesday. The dates of examinations for other units drawn " from Auckland will be notified later. Each man who has registered is being sent a personal note, from the coin-' manding officer concerned, requesting bim to attend for medical examination. . Recruits are tested, clothed and equipped immediately following their medical examination.

"It is essential," said Colonel Duigan, " that those who intend to join the various units named should make a point of attending for examination on the dales mentioned." Medical examination of those who ! wished to join outside units would be arranged shortly. Last evening a conference of commanding officers was held to .discuss the formation of a territorial association through' out the Northern Command.
