FRUITGROWERS' COUNCIL.
DECISION TO WIND UP.
EIGHT YEARS OF ACTIVITY.
A decision to wind up the affairs of the Auckland Provincial Fruitgrowers' Coun- - cil, Ltd., was made at a special meeting of the council yesterday. This action was taken following notice of motion given by Mr. F. Firth at the annual meeting of the council held-on June 19. Mr. Firth said the council had done very valuable work, but it was considered that, if the advisory board of _the . Fruitgrowers' Federation was reorganised it could tako over the work of the council without loss to growers. ■ A report of the activities of the council since it was set up in 1923 was submitted by the president, Mr. S. W. House, who presided. He said it was the only P ro " vincial body so constituted that it could consider fruitgrowers' matters and interests from a provincial standpoint. " The council cannot possibly carry on under existing conditions," said Mr. House. "The council, has been hampered financially and now many associations are either ceasing to function or are withdrawing from the council." The secretary, Mr. G. A. Green, commented upon the apathy toward organisation shown by growers and expressed the wish that the boam would find conditions improved. The motion to wind up tlio council was carried. It was decided to make a levy of Is a head upon associations to cover the council's deficit and a committee, consisting of Messrs. House, Green and Firth, was set up to finalise the matter. . A motion expressing appreciation ol the - services of Messrs. House and Green upon the council was carried unanimously.
