The Hinds Hurdle Handicap proved a somewhat easy proposition for Barrington. Except for having Amorist as mate for the first half of the journey he always held the leading position and beat Camisuder decisively. Gallivanter, a novice hurdler, ran a promising race for third place and Amorist was next. This was Amorist's first race sinco the summer, and his display was very encouraging for later engagements. Lancer, who was also making his reappearance, was always near tho tail of the field. ■ Desert Glow again pulled up lame. Troilus fell at. tho third fence and West Dome stumbled over hiih after landing. , Tho Morcton Hack Handicap was responsible for a sterling effort by Tippling, who, ridden by H. Dulieu, executed a powerful run from the back in tho straight and got up to beat Moorbird by a head. Moorbird acted as pacemaker from the start and her rider appeared to tako matters too easily in the last 50yds. Although this filly, who is by Tho Ace from the brilliant Moorfowl, is rising five and has been in commission for close on threo years, this was her first public appearance. She is owned by Mr. E. S. Luttrell, whoso colours havo not been unfurled for somo time. ihe favourite Elude gained third money. lie was hampered by the soft going. Punchestown and Taragona were entrusted with the same figures in the Mayfield Hack Handicap. The former carried his supporters through, but Tuagona an interrupted passage ard was beaten into fourth position. Semper Paratus rushed away in the load in tho middle stages and his chanco looked very favourable when he had a useful advantage entering the straight. However, Punchestown tackled him inside tho distance and in a punishing finish beat him home by a length. • Tho Dromore Hock and Hunters' Steeplechase was robbed of interest through three of tho six candidates falling, including tho favourite Thurina, who crashed at tho third fence, his ridor, A. Peart, suffering n broken collarbone. Fresh Broezo took charge entering upon tho last circuit, but fell, leaving Oriflamb and Diamond Jack to fight out the contest. Tho former, always holding his rival safe, boat him comfortably by a length. Rangatahi was eliminated at tho second fenco and Seaboy completed the courso to gain third money, about two furlongs away. Tho contest for tho only open race on tho programme, tho Maronan Handicap, was Very uninteresting, soveral candidates losing their Chances in the straggling start. Quantum, who is trained at Greymouth, shot to the front from barrier-riso and had the field in trouble throughout. Rod Boa, who was one of tho worst sufferers in tho early stages, put in a remarkable finishing run but was unable to make an impression on tho leader, who had two lengths to spare at the post. Francolin was last away and did good work to gain third place, only three lengths away. Rascal and Noteworthy were noxt. YEARLING COLTS NAMED. The Diacqucnod—Minsk colt, owned by Mr. Colin W Anderson, will raco under the name of Rusßky, He is a half-brother to Carinthia, Currajong snd Fedora, and is a bigger youngste.r than woro any of hiß relatives at a liko ago. J. T. Jamieson has applied for tho names Vasco Di Gama and Home Brew for tho colts by Caravel—Vanga and Tippler—Miss Myra, Both aro thriving well, tho Caravel colt being a particularly nice youngster. PAVLOVA TO RETIRE. Tho. last has probably been seon cf Pavlova on tho race track, as Mr. E. H. Cuckaoy intends to sond her to .Canterbury to be mated with Travis Axworthy. Pavlova is by Man O' War, from Our Aggie, a mare who wns brought to New Zealand from tho Old Country by J. Bryco. Our Aggie wos mated with Travis Axworthy, the product being Red Shadow, acknowledged to bo the greatest colt ever rawd in tho Dominion. If Pavlova's union has a similar result, Mr. Cucksey will later on bo well is the sport ugain.
