CRITICISM OF BANKRUPT.
" INDISCRIMINATE CREDIT." JUDGE SUSPENDS DISCHARGE. [I'IIOJI OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Tuesday. "This man has been giving indiscriminate credit lo Maoris and has been contracting debts without having any reasonable prospect of being able to pay them," said Mr. Justice Herdman in the Hamilton Supreme Court to-day, when'dealing with an application for discharge in bankruptcy made on behalf of Eric Troutbeck Hutton, storekeeper, Murupara. Mr. A. L. Tompkins, for bankrupt, said Hutton was only 23 years of age. He had made £IOOO by his own efforts as a carrier, and had paid £7OO for goodwill that was worth nothing." Maoris were his principal customers, and it was due to his inexperience that he gave them credit. Mr. Tompkins expressed the view that the Court's proposal to suspend bankrupt's discharge for a year was a sever# one. His Honor rejoined that if people lik# to trade recklessly they must take th# consequences. The discharge wa* suspended for 12 months..
