POLICE COURT NEWS.
CONVICTION OF HINDU. ASSAULT ON MAN AND GIRL. Sentence of 14 days' imprisonment wafc imposed in the Police Court yesterday on a Hindu fruiterer, Bhana Soma, aged 27, who was charged with assaulting another Hindu and striking a Maori girl. A remand until to-day was made when Mary Hodson, aged 48, was convicted on a charge of being idle and disorderly in that slio begged alms ,in Victoria Street.. When a charge of deserting from the steamer Matakana at Auckland oh April 10 was preferred against Frank Onward Nellis, aged 26, steward, it was stated he was missing from the ship when it was about to sail. Nellis was sent to prison for 14 davs.
