CANADA AND NEW ZEALAND.
Sir, —Tariffs are the means of more misunderstanding than it is pleasant to consider, and there seems plenty to even blame New Zealand, while it is natural that New Zealanders generally blame Canada for the position 1 ho two countries now find themselves in. But if we care to sift the matter to its original cause it will bo found tliaL the United Stales is tlio direct cause of I his trouble, for Canada only raised tariff on our butter when and because tho United Slates made it impossible, by tariff wall, for Canada to export milk products to its market. Canada had then to seek another outlet and forced their Government to conscrvo its home market for tiio loss of the market in the United States. That, and that alone, is the reason for the present unpleasant position. Business.
